NSCDC Operative In Prison For Employment Scam

Gombe State High Court has convicted an operative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to three years imprisonment for an employment scam.

Justice A. J Awak who passed the judgement on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, sentenced Zubairu Baba Ali, of the Yobe State Command for fraudulent act.

The accused was arraigned before the court by the Gombe Zonal office of the  EFCC, on one-count charge bordering on cheating to the tune of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000.00).

The Prosecution Counsel, G. I. Ndeh disclosed that Ali ran into troubled waters in 2017, when he collected the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000.00) from one Muhammed Bashir Muhammad in Gombe, to secure a job at NSCDC.

He added that he also complied and paid the money into a third-party account. However, investigations by the EFCC uncovered the fraud. The owner of the account with Keystone Bank, Iliyasu Yakubu Amana, admitted that he handed over the money to the convict.

Ndeh, said the accused committed an offense contrary to Section 320 and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

The convict however pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Justice Awak, sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment with an option of N50,000.00( Fifty Thousand Naira only) fine.
